UL – Underwriters Laboratories

The UL Marks are registered trademarks and the printing of them is tightly controlled by Underwriters Laboratories. NFi is authorized to print these marks as we are registered with their Authorized Label Suppliers Program (PGAA under File #LP1594).

The UL and UR are both registered certification marks and may be only used on or in connection with products certified by UL and under the terms of written agreement with UL.

Prior to production, the final lay-out of the most common Type R Mark, must be provided to UL for review and acceptance. A copy of the label drawing (which could be the NFi art proof) is stamped by UL’s Label Center and must be provided to the printer. The component mark (UR) does not require a stamped drawing but it is recommended that the label information to be printed is reviewed for correctness by your UL engineer.

A more controlled UL Marking is the Type L. This requires authorization for each order (with Issue or Serial Numbers) from UL. By sending a copy of your label order to UL an order number is then provided to us from UL with the appropriate quantities and issue/serial numbers.

Marking and Labeling Systems are also tested as a component by UL under category PGDQ2 (UL 969; NFi File # MH12578). These are completely recognized label constructions (not simply raw material). NFi has some unusual capabilities that are UL recognized. These include polycarbonate (that can be digitally printed with bar codes) for outdoor use and a printed adhesive system for economical zoned adhesive applications.

Another standard, UL94, can cover the Flammability Rating (such as V0, V1 or V2) of the raw materials used. The lower the number the better the flammability rating is. [..more - CSA]
